Export Southland hosted the Honourable Todd McClay, Minister of Trade, at a lunch time discussion at the Ascot Park Hotel on Wednesday 16 March 2016.
The Minister spoke to Chamber of Commerce members and Export Southland guests on the importance of trade to New Zealand’s economy. In particular, he spoke on how trade can grow regional economies by expanding markets, increasing investment, and creating new jobs. Individuals and businesses were informed about taking advantage of existing and new opportunities presented by trade agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership. He spoke in detail about the TPP and summarised the document.
The Export Southland Committee Chairman, Graham Dick, said of the event “we were pleased to host the Trade Minister to provide our members with access to up to date and relevant information about trading agreements and how this will impact on our regions’ businesses.”
Hon Todd McClay is the Member of Parliament for Rotorua. He has been in Parliament since 2008 and was promoted to Cabinet in 2014. He became Minister of Revenue, Minister for State Owned Enterprises, Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs and Associate Minister of Trade. In December 2015, following a cabinet reshuffle, Mr McClay became the Minister of Trade.
