Waikato students take out national title

Young Enterprise Trust

Just Kidding Babysitting received the top award on Wednesday night at the 2014 National Awards for The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme in Wellington. The students received their trophies from the Governor-General, His Excellency Lt Gen. The Rt Hon. Sir Jerry Mateparae; and Murray Reade, CEO of The Lion Foundation.

As the national champions, Just Kidding Babysitting receive a $3000 cash prize along with scholarships to AUT University. Their school also receives a cash prize of $2000.

Just Kidding Babysitting has come up with a modern, safe way to provide babysitting services to parents with ease. JKB provides vetted babysitters and can match babysitters with children specifically to help with homework, hobbies or shared interests. Parents book their babysitter online via their website and pay JBK in advance, thus reducing cash flow problems or bad debt problems on the night.

Young Enterprise CEO Terry Shubkin said the Just Kidding Babysitting team had done outstandingly well in 2014. “This team have created a business which met a real need in their local community, and they have the potential to take this idea nationwide.”

The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme is an experiential programme where secondary students set up a small business. More than 2,500 students from 200 schools took part in the programme in 2014.
