Cultural Diversity Workshops for the Southland Community

Southern Institute of Technology Press Release

Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce are running Cultural Diversity Workshops for the Southland Community.

These free training sessions are an introduction to cultural diversity in the workplace and will cover areas such as:

  • What a culturally diverse workplace looks like
  • Why a culturally diverse workplace adds value to an organisation
  • How employers can ensure a high standard of communication and productivity from all employees
  • Overcoming any issues you could be facing when employing people from other cultures

The overarching purpose of the workshops is to help raise awareness about cultural diversity in the workplace and show employers how to encourage cultural integration in their workplaces. The workshops also sit alongside the SIT Work-Ready Hub which supports SIT international graduates to gain internships and employment.

The long term goal of the Cultural Diversity Workshops is aligned to the Southland Regional Development Strategy. The goals are to employ international skilled workers, assist local businesses to improve skill levels, expand Southland’s economy, boost exports and contribute to population growth.

The workshops can assist with resources for employers to help with communication in the workplace to ensure productivity remains high. They also cover training in: speaking clearly, delivering presentations with ease, and ensuring communication is open and effective – especially if English is not the first language spoken. All these skills are individually directed to match the values of the business or individual employee.
